Thats what I call a quality aftermarket part!,
I purchased this part based on the reviews that it had all metal components. I am glad to respond that indeed all pieces, including the dreaded lever are made of metal and will outlive the car being repaired.
The part looks quality made, an exact replica of oem, other than use of metal parts. It has proper insulation to seal the latch against the back door. After reading comments about nuts not fitting on studs, I tested the part to make sure I would have no issues. I am happy to report that I had no issues in that respect. I am completely satisfied with this part, as in 5 stars.
For those attempting repair themselves, it is a simple under 1hour job.
If your door is closed, you first need to unlatch it and open it.
climb in the trunk, slide the cover of hand loop (goes up) located on the drivers side, undo a single 10mm bolt.
pop the covers off the inner door handle located on the passenger side. Covers are hinged plastic and flip down.
Remove 2 10mm bolts holding the handle on. Remove the handle.
Next get your finger tips under the bottom of door trim and gently pry away from the door. There are bunch of plastic clips holding
the trim to the door. Once you free up the door trim, move it out of the way. If some plastic pins get stuck in the door, remove them with appropriate tool and reinsert in the trim panel. Unlatch and open the door.
Remove the cable that attaches to the handle through one of the big openings. Undo 3 10mm nuts holding the trim panel.
From outside remove the plastic trim containing door handle. The handle is held in place by two phillips screws. Undo the screws,
discard old handle, reattach new handle with screws. At this point I had a small snag. Instead of using 4 bolts to attach the trim, Toyota uses 1 plastic clip and 3 bolts. Well, the plastic clip was broken, so the trim panel was not flush after reattachment.
I discarded the broken clip and inserted a bolt I had in my parts bin. Then I reattached the trim panel with 3 original nuts and one for the bolt I used in place of the clip.
Reattach the action cable. Test the function of the door handle. If all is ok, proceed.
Remove two vertical window trim pieces. Snap the door trim in place, snap the vertical trim pieces (they go over the door trim).
Reattach the door handle with 2 bolts. Reattach the door handle loop with one bolt. Replace trim pieces.
Your are Done, congrats. Spend the money you saved on some new tools 🙂
