Proved itself on its 1st day!,
Quality:
So this is the 1st dash camera I’ve ever owned, and I‘ve wanted one for some time. I did a bit of research before deciding on this one and it looks as if I made the right choice! I think this model is a great balance of value and quality. I was a bit hesitant at first because there were no reviews on it yet, but I attributed it to being a new model which is a good thing, and from looking at YouTube videos on the other G1W models the video quality looked sharp. Out of the box I’m really impressed with how compact and light weight this thing is, almost makes it feel cheap but don’t let that fool you. This thing has really impressive video quality @ 1080p 30fps, and with the WDR and anti-shake video processing, you can make out plate numbers and other small details with ease. I will say it works well at night and in difficult lighting conditions, but quality is definitely better in the day. Also, I found the led night light to be pretty useless. Firstly it’s not even infrared so everyone can see it, and I’d say at best the effective range of the light is about 6”.
Features:
Otherwise it comes with a host of useful features to play with. Options such as the ability to turn mic on/off, turn night light on/off, change resolution, zoom (digital only), change file size record length (default 3mins), just to name a few. I personally like the wide angle lens as this is my sole camera and I want to catch as much area possible in the frame, the fish-eye doesn’t bother me. The accessories work great, the suction cup mount sticks really well and stays in place like it should. The cables included are nice too, and I like that the micro-usb power cable is long (at least 10ft). Overall I found this camera really easy to use, the menus all make sense after you learn what the buttons do. It has an internal speaker on it as well during playback mode which is nice. I put in my brand new CENTON® 32gb class 10 micro sd card and had this thing up and running in 5 mins. On a 32gb, and @ full 1080p, It holds about 5hrs of continuous video. Each 3min. video is 289mb or 96mb/min., 96*60 = 5780mb/hr. 32000mb/5780mb = 5.54hrs. About right.
Other notable features are:
– Parking Detection Mode: which will start recording when it senses shock if somebody bumps the car. (sensor sensitivity is adjustable, I found this feature can also be used while the device is unplugged)
-Motion Detection: will start recording when it senses motion. (I think the device needs to be powered for this feature).
-Image Rotation: flips image 180 degrees
-Video Format: PAL / NTSC
-Video Frequency: 50 / 60Hz
-Delayed Shutdown: Off, 5s, 10s
-Screensaver: 30s, 1min, 2min
-Auto power off: 3min, 5min, 10min
-Internal Battery: does not last very long, most life I’ve gotten is maybe 2-3mins.
Connectivity:
Easily connects to a PC as mass storage device via included usb cable (micro usb). No special software or drivers needed. Easy to upload files to a computer or play them right off the device. File format is .mov and windows media player had no problems playing the files. Also, the files are all organized by filenames according to the timestamp which is great, and makes it very easy to search within a specific timeframe. It also organizes any locked files in a separate folder.
In Summary:
Get one! You’ll be happy you did!

Nice upgrade from G1W,
For the few extra bucks over the G1W, it’s worth it just for the wider viewing angle, which can be priceless in catching accident footage.

nearly the same cam in a different case,
My first impression was that it’s smaller than I expected. It weighs almost nothing, which is all good. Construction feels like typical cheap Chinese. I found it odd that it comes with a USB cable, a DC car adapter, and an HDMI cable. Guys, knock $5 off the price and expect that I can find an HDMI cable if I need it, and expect that I already own a USB car charger. In fact, we don’t need the HDMI port at all. Just take out the memory card and play it wherever you want.
I read a lot about how the menu system was terrible. I don’t agree. It’s simple, and there are relatively few options. It came out of the box in english. The defaults are good enough so technically you don’t even need to change anything (except set the date). Operation couldn’t be simpler. Plugin in in and mount it to your dash. It starts recording 5 seconds after you turn it on and turns off automatically when it loses power (when you turn off your engine in most cars).
I was concerned that the cam wouldn’t run from my dual USB car charger. I have a phone to charge of course so I can’t dedicate the single power outlet to the cam. Turns out it runs fine. I just use a longer that normal USB cable to my dual USB car charger instead of the included power adapter.
Video quality is surprisingly good. I don’t know about any «night vision», but night videos are bright enough to see things. The brightness is pretty much true to life. The wide angle is good. The video ends up being a fish-eye view. It stretches side to side across the front of the car. You won’t get anything on the sides of your car however.
