Great features that work about 50% of the time, June 25, 2014

I was genuinely excited to get this item. It took a little time to install, as this is my first non-factory car stereo. Finally got everything hooked up correctly after 90 minutes or so.

    ISSUES:
    1. Non-responsive buttons – The buttons on the face of the stereo system have to be mashed pretty forcefully for the system to recognize they’ve been pushed. This is incredibly frustrating if you don’t have the screen up.This isn’t an issue with the touch screen. The touch screen is very responsive, even if there’s a 1-2 second delay after you push a button on it.

    2. Power issues – I had about a day and a half of perfect use from this system, messing around with all the features driving to and from work. Then, over the weekend, I had some friends in my car as we were driving out to dinner. As soon as I turned the system on, the screen lit up with a “No Signal” notice. The touch screen opened automatically, and would not close unless I turned off the car. None of the features except “AUX” mode worked, and even then the sound was reduced to being barely audible. I figured out the next morning that the “No Signal” display only appeared when I turned my headlights on, which essentially means it would only work during the day time. However, I realized that if I dimmed the interior lights on my odometer, the system would function properly even with headlights on. This is inconvenient, but worth it if I have a fully functional stereo.

    3. USB Connector Doesn’t Work – There is a chord running from the back of the stereo that has a USB connector. The first time I plugged in my iPhone, it switched from “charging” to “not charging” so fast I thought it was having a seizure. It wouldn’t connect long enough to do anything. The next time I tried it, nothing happened. Again, the USB port is not essential to me, so I can overlook this.

    4. Weak radio signal – Self explanatory. I’m 90 miles out from a station in a major city that I picked up very clearly with my factory stereo. Nothing but static with this new system.

    5. THE LAST STRAW – Touch Screen Committed Suicide – I tried to plug my phone into the USB one last time to see if it could get a charge. As soon as I did, the touch screen went black and became unresponsive. I powered off the stereo, but screen was still unresponsive. I restarted my car, but the screen was still unresponsive. The buttons on the face of the stereo became unresponsive. The only way to control anything is with the remote. This piece of crap won’t even give me my DVD back. The display says it’s trying to open, but absolutely nothing happens. There is not a button on the remote to eject a disc, and there doesn’t seem to be a reset button either.

I’ve had this system a week. There have been WAY too many functionality problems in that time. Cross your fingers when you order this that you don’t get a defective system like I did. About to call and give someone hell about why the majority of the things don’t work on this. NOT WORTH THE MONEY.

Great radio, I love it. I was a bit worried about the reviews of the radio having no bluetooth, but it does have bluetooth and it works like a charm. Now I can listen to Stryper all the time. Really happy, would recommend with the reverse camera. Perfect duo

This radio is kind of perplexing.

To start off, when the screen pops in and out, the motors driving it are very strong and the gears won’t skip or strip out. Plus it looks just awesome when it does it. When I turn the car on and it pops out, everyone is like “WOAH!” Even with the following problems, I’m giving it 3 stars just for that. That’s how cool it is.

Bluetooth works with no problem. If you’re device is playing music (unpaused) it will continue when it connects. I go from headphones to the speakers without taking it out of my pocket. The materials are okay. Nothing to brag about, but they are pretty durable (not a lot of scratches). The screen itself, again, is not too bad, but not that good either. It is too dim even on the highest brightness, the pixel density is pretty average as far as car radios go. And the look of the software is pretty average too. I don’t understand why car stereo manufacturers, even the ones that come with the cars, can’t make the software look… finished. They all look like projects from college students in a programming class. The hardware is cool, but has some inexplicable features.

    All of my difficulties:
    – When setting up, the radio manual isn’t clear on all the proper connections, so it would be wise to learn a little about your car’s wiring and how it compares to this radio (you can find pretty much all the manuals online).
    – No album artwork stream to the music playing screen. Annoying, but bearable.
    – You have to go through some strange (and often glitchy) process to make a call, but the mic is okay as far as radios go.
    – If someone calls you, it doesn’t automatically use the radio for mic and speakers even when you press the answer button on the radio screen. Every time someone calls me I gotta say “hold on” and quickly change the setting on my phone before I crash into something.
    – If you have the screen down and can’t access the buttons on the touch screen, you can use the buttons on the face instead, the only problem is that you have to push HARD to make them work.
    – If you want the screen down or the radio off and you have wired a camera to the radio, the screen will pop out (which takes about 4 seconds), starts up (another 4 seconds) and displays the camera feed when reversing. I find this annoying, if you don’t want the screen to pop out, you have to remove the face and put it… somewhere.
    – Why can you remove the face? There’s no reason for this. The radio is still there, but it is unusable. It even comes with a case to put it in. Is it theft protection? I don’t get it.
    – If you want the volume low, you can’t seem to get it in the right spot without changing the volume on your device. Impossible if you’re listening to AM/FM or CD. In the low range, the volume leaps and bounds at every click, there’s no precision. In the high range, it feels like it struggles to add volume to the sound. It is basically just unbalanced.

*****All in all I’d say the quality just isn’t worth the price.*****
