Denso Iridium Plug Denso's Iridium power spark plugs help your vehicle achieve unparalleled performance. It alters the belief that a mere spark plug can add power and mileage. This is done by combining an ultra-fine 0.4mm diameter Iridium center electrode with a tapered cut U-groove ground electrode. Iridium conducts electricity better than platinum, however what makes it exceptional is it's also 6x harder and 8x stronger than platinum. Because of this, the center electrode can be machined down to 0.4mm. This ultra-fine iridium center electrode provides superior ignition performance during acceleration and top cruising RPM. The U-groove ground electrode creates a larger, brighter flame kernel. The tip of the ground electrode has been tapere

Best plugs money can boy., January 12, 2011

I’ve tried out many plugs for my Mazdaspeed 3 and these are the best. I’ve used the factory FoMoCo plugs, step colder Denso (these ITV22’s listed here) and both factory heat range NGK’s and step colder NGK’s and these step colder plugs are definitely in a class unto their own. Some important facts:

Stock heat range Denso’s (ITV20) are not gapped correctly for Mazdaspeed’s. They are gapped at .60 out of the box. This will require re-gapping them to the .26 to .30 for correct operation. I do NOT advise doing this on Iridium plugs! NGK goes as far to say it would be better to run them at the wrong gap than for you to re-gap their Iridium plugs.

NGK stock heat range laser Iridium spark plugs for the Mazdaspeed’s ARE gapped correctly out of the box. These are also identical to the FoMoCo plugs that come in the car from the factory and are listed as direct OEM replacements. These are the NGK Laser Iridiums. Not to be confused with the NGK IX’s! Those are a different plugs.

NGK Iridium IX step colder plugs are NOT gapped correctly out of the box. They are at .60 and not the correct .26 to .30 that is recommended. As I said earlier, NGK goes as far to say it would be better to run them at the wrong gap than for you to re-gap their Iridium plugs.

So, knowing all of these facts…

If you want exact stock plugs, buy NGK Laser Iridium in the stock heat range. You could also go to the stealership and buy the FoMoCo’s, but just know, you are paying more for the exact same plug, as the FoMoCo’s are just re-badged NGK Laser Iridium’s.

If you want step colder plugs, buy these Denso Iridium ITV22’s as they come with the correct gap out of the box, whereas the NGK Iridium IX’s are gapped incorrectly at .60 out of the box. Do not re-gap them as you will likely damage the Iridium core. If you try, just know, even if it doesn’t look like it, they will likely be damaged without your knowing it. This is according to NGK themselves.

As far as NGK Iridium IX stock heat range, I am not certain of their gap as I haven’t tried these myself. But I do know that out of all the plugs I ran, the Denso’s definitely ran the best. I didn’t run their stock heat range as their gap is wrong out of the box and I didn’t want to chance it, but running their step colder’s was a joy. However, running the wrong heat range will likely cause them to deteriorate quicker than the advertised 60k mile range they are rated for. Mine did this as well, and although the ride was nice while it lasted, they fouled a bit too quick for my liking so I went back to the stock heat range NGK Laser Iridium OEM replacement plugs and all is well again. Though I wouldn’t hesitate to run the ITV22 step colder Denso’s again. They run SUPER SMOOTH while they last!

Spark plugs are exactly what I needed for an ECU flash/upgrade on my Mazdaspeed 6 and Amazon had the best price anywhere I’ve seen … still true even though the price has gone up 11% to $9.50 since I bought them on 4/7/2010.

Right now they are a 5 star solution. Have about 65K on the vehicle and was having some misfires and stutter. Swapped them out, they came pregapped from the factory and worked well. Immediate response, no more stuttering and power has been restored. Certainly will not know if they will last as long as advertised and 7 years seems unlikely. Hope to get upto 100K on them.

Just wished Mazda had not opted to put the intercooler right on top of the plugs, made a simple job so much more compicated.

I bought these for my 2002 Silverado 5.3l. I had replaced the original plugs and wires with Bosch wires and plugs (Platinum +2) five years ago. I was not happy with the Bosch components but that’s for another review. I’m glad to go back to OEM with these wires and the iridium plugs ACDelco 41-110 Professional Iridium Spark Plug, Pack of 1.

The tricky part was figuring out which wire fit the truck since there are two listed (9748HH and 9748GG). The wire listings reference a number stamped on the coils but I wanted a way to tell without taking it off. After a good bit of research I found the difference based on part drawings in the service manual.

The Melco coils (coils stamped 12558693) have a wire attachment point on the side and use 9748HH. This is why the wires are a bit longer.

The Delphi coils (coils stamped 19005218) have a wire attachment point on the bottom and use 9748GG ACDelco 9748GG Spark Plug Wire Kit. They are a bit shorter.

Another way to tell the coils apart is the attachment points. The Melco coils attach to the engine at the top and bottom where the Delphi coils attach on the sides.

Look at the picture I’ve posted for more details.

These are NOT the OEM wires., October 22, 2013

These are NOT the OEM product!
ACDelco has two lines of ignition wires.
748HH (no 9 in front of part number) is OE product and is what is sold by dealerships and full line ACDelco distributors.
9748HH is ACDelco **AFTERMARKET**, built by another manufacturer, licensed with the ACDelco name.
I am aware ACDelco themselves does not make the 748HH OEM product, but do not be duped into thinking you are saving that much money compared to OE parts providers.

There are two different sets of these you can get. one is long the other is short and goes by which coil you have. check at your local parts store for the correct part number and then order here to save. this one is the wrong one for my 02 2500hd.
