I have been driving around a 2007 HHR for with broken door handles on both front doors for more than a year now. The reason for this is that Chevrolet tells you that you can not simply buy the piece (Interior Door Handle) separately, but must by the entire interior door panel. When I first priced this it was $320. The price has since gone up to $350 and another review stated $400!
If you are a fix it yourself person this repair isn’t that bad of a project. The hardest part is making sure you don’t break the plastic snap in clips holding the interior door panel. They do not include instructions on how to remove the door panel either, so do your research. Plenty of free sites with pictures can be found with a simple google search.
This would be a five star review, but the screws/glue you use for the replacement are where I deduct points. The kit comes with a drill bit to strip the plastic melted «pop rivets» holding the old handle in place. You need to make sure you drill enough to open up a hole for the super glue and screw to be attached to, but need to be equally careful not to remove to much of the plastic you are drilling by going too far or you have nothing to connect to.
When you put the door back together you will be screwing the new piece directly to the exterior door, but other than that the super glue and some barely gripping screws are all that attach the new piece to the interior door panel.
The other problem I see with this is since the piece is still plastic and will possibly break again you are going to run into issues the second time around. Now instead of drilling plastic away you have super glued metal screws. Guess I will deal with that if/when that happens. This is probably why Chevrolet wants you to buy the interior door panel instead.
However, I don’t have to roll my window down to get out of car anymore so Thank you Dorman!!!!!!

My husband and I have HHRs and both of our drivers’ door handles broke. I replaced mine in about an hour. My husband has asked me to fix his now. Amazing what a girl and a tool can do when given great equipment. Thank you Dorman

This product was a life save. My door handle busted on the 07 Chevy HHR. Went to the dealer. They said I had to buy a whole new door panel. $300+. That’s not in my budget. Found this on Amazon. Great find!!!!

Moderately priced solution for a MAJOR design flaw,
