It’s the right stuff, and OK for lightly used daily drivers, but I’m trying something else out now.,
However… Initially I was convinced that SP-III ATF’s – that are only sold by Hyundai / Kia dealers and here on Amazon – were the way to go. Since then, there seem to have been enough people who tested out Valvoline MaxLife ATF Dex/Merc in their Hyundai/Kias with really good results. ALso, I’ve read that the designs of many of these transmissions were poor in regard to cooling, and the suspicion is that the OEM ATF, like this Hyundai SP-III here, were made of such cheap base stocks that it breaks down too fast in hot / severe driving conditions. Some even recommend an ATF cooler be installed if one plans to use this ATF.
I just did a partial change on my Hyundai yesterday, and I used 4 quarts of the MaxLife ATF. I’m going to be assessing its performance, hard, since I use it as a sales car and often get stuck in 5-lane gridlock on what should be a 65 MPH road. Initial testing around town after the change yesterday seemed very promising. Smooth shifts, and more shifting when it should instead of holding out a little longer.
