Simple product that works, December 16, 2013

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
I am happy with this product. It is simple and it works well. After using it a few times, I was able to get my iPhone put in and take out of it with one hand (non-dominant hand).

My only issue is that I had to give up one air vent. On the back of this product, there are two slits that crisscross. To ensure this holder won’t jiggle or slip, you need to set it up exactly where two air vent grid lines meet. That means you can no longer adjust the air flow direction. If I do not want the air coming out of this air vent, I need to shut it up. Also, I assume the heat probably is not good for my phone, so I keep this air vent shut during winter. Since I wanted to keep the center air vents free from this restriction, I am using the one on the left side of steering wheel. Thus, I trained myself to use my non-dominant hand to handle my iPhone while it is in this holder.

Genius Device (Fits a Nexus 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4 with TPU cases), January 12, 2014
    J. Pak (San Francisco, CA) –

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
I am still in awe as to how creative, well-designed, and simple this phone holder is. It’s so compact for carrying around if needed and sturdy enough to hold my Galaxy S4 phone w/ TPU case pretty stable on the vent of my ’05 Accord Coupe. My wife’s Nexus 5 phone with case also fit just fine. There was still a little bit more room to stretch so if you have a thicker case for any of these phones (or comparably sized smartphone), there shouldn’t be any issues fitting them in this phone holder.

I was a bit hesitant to spend $25 when there are other holders for cheaper, but after some use I have absolutely no regrets. All the other ones on the market are significantly larger and obstructs your windshield view one way or another. However, Airframe’s holder solves both issues.

The only only negative is that it obstructs one of your vents so if your car doesn’t allow you to close that particular vent, be cautious about heat blowing on the phone.

Great product and highly recommended even at the relatively higher price point.

Ok if you have an iphone 4/5, get the Airframe+ for larger phones, April 19, 2014

This review is from: Kenu Airframe – Portable Smartphone Car Mount – Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)

    Update 10/28/14:
I see that Kenu has a model now for larger phones (phablets):
I think the larger model would address a lot (not all) of the issues I had with this particular model, so I am going to up my review by one star in appreciation of Kenu listening to their customers and making changes to suit larger phones. Ironically, I’ve decided to downsize my phone to a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact so I’ll be keeping the original model and using it with the new phone. I’ve actually supported a new mount on Kickstarter and looking forward to giving it a try when it’s estimated to ship in late November, but it’s kickstarter so I’m not holding my breath – and which is why I’m not mentioning the name of the device as I don’t want to recommended a product that turned out to be vaporware.

    Update 07/05/14:
Apparently this review has gotten a lot of views and some comments, so I thought I would update it.

My wife got frustrated with another car mount that I had with clips that are more difficult to install and remove (because she thinks it’s a big eyesore and she didn’t want to look at it) so she ripped it out and broke it – without remorse. So, I went back to trying to make this clip work. It doesn’t play well with my Sony Xperia Z with a case, so I just roll without a case now. It does makes it easier to clip in and out without using the case, and I’ve gotten better at it with practice. I can clip my phone in one handed now that I’ve gotten used to the action of the springs, you need to push up against the right side of the clip to open it up. Removing is tricky but still doable, and sometimes it does slide around on vents – though I can do it now without it completely falling off the vents.

Someone, commented that they had no problem using this case with an LG G2 phone. My father has that phone so I’m familiar with it. What makes my phone any many other big android phones different is that the LG G2 has all the buttons on the back, so that means you can clip it right in the middle and you can man handle the phone without worrying about pressing any buttons – as apposed to my phone which has the volume rocker and power button taking up most of the middle of the phone, leaving only a little area in the top or bottom. I’ve got to feel for where the buttons are on my phone and clip it in so that it doesn’t keep pressing down on the volume, and I’ve done this enough times now that I’ve gotten used to it. However, even though I’ve gotten better at clipping in my phone it’s still wobbles when I drive since I can only clip in from the bottom or top. I like to keep my phone in landscape, for gps etc, so my phone falls over completely upside down, so I’ve found a work around for that as well. I’ve figured out a vent placement that let’s me put the phone in a lopsided landscape mode where one side of the phone rests against a radio nob – it doesn’t leave any room for adjustment, and the screen is very crooked but at least it’s not flopping around any more.

Since I have found a way to make this work, I’m bumping up my original 1 star review to a 3 star. I’ve had to make comprises to make this car mount work and it’s not perfect, but it’s ok.

    Original Review:
At first I thought this was an awesome minimalist design. I even showed it off to friends and recommended it. However after using it for some time I have changed my opinion and decided it’s terrible in practical use.

Clip. The way it attaches to your vehicle is with slide on clips – they are metal clips with rubber boots on them – and you slide it onto your ac vents. The rubber pieces detached from mine after removing it from the vents only after a few times. I reattached them with epoxy. However even still it doesn’t hold still. It’s constantly wiggling loose. You can bend the clips a little bit to get them tighter, but that doesn’t help, it still wiggles loose.

Clamp. It clamps onto your phone by a spring loaded side clamps. The force of the spring is very strong. It makes sense because it has to really hold onto your phone, but it’s really strong. If you have an iphone your phone is much narrower so it’s a little easier, if you have an android phone and one with a bigger screen (like mine at 5″) the phone is bigger so you have to really fight with the clamps to open wide enough. It’s is a two handed affair to clip your phone in and out, and it’s not fast and easy at that. It’s a struggle each time to pull and grab and at the same time the weak vent clip doesn’t hold tight so the whole thing wiggles around and half the time just pops off the ac vent.

Clamp length. This was obviously designed to fit thin square edged phones (ie iphone) and not much else, because it only extends out a short length, plus it has pointy rubber…
