   Took to locksmith $25 to laser cut. Took transponder chip out old remote, put in new one. Works great, you have to have chip or get it programmed by locksmith as it won’t start car, some kind of anti-theft. Saved lots of money.

   While the price is great, I was unable to find any locksmith or dealer willing to cut the key. Honda keys are notoriously difficult to reproduce (apparently, Honda’s laser-etched 3D keys use 6 different depth settings, whereas most other manufacturers only use 3 or 4), and I had multiple locksmiths (and one dealership) tell me that they don’t cut 3rd-party keys because the metal is too hard and it too often damages the drill bit and/or results in an unusable key.

   If you find a hardware store or a locksmith willing and able to cut 3rd-party Honda keys for your year and model, this might well be a good product. Otherwise, don’t try it.

   It says it includes a DIY programming guide… when you go to the programming site for a 2003 Honda Accord (I’m guessing it’s the same for all years described) it says the following:

   Do-It-Yourself programming procedure is not available for this vehicle. This vehicle requires a diagnostic equipment to be connected to the vehicle to program the key. You will need to find a local automotive locksmith or a dealer to program this key.

   So if you can’t DIY then don’t say you can. I got the key for $17 and it’s going to cost me $55 to get it programmed and cut (I argued price down from $70) and you can program the locks so overall it’s still a good deal but I can’t get over the lie. If they update the info so it’s accurate I’ll change to a 4 or 5-star.
