Works great for a Crown Victoria with a little modification, October 26, 2015

I used this as the base adapter to install a double din radio in a 2009 crown victoria. The crown vic was not really designed to accept a double din radio but it can be done. The stock adapter puts the radio too far back in the opening, the radio actually comes in contact with the defroster duct and prevents the adapter from locking in. Wanting to keep my defroster duct intact, I slotted the required mounting holes a 1/2 an inch longer and cut off the dash matching trim area. This allowed me to bring the unit forward a half an inch allowing the unit to snap into the dashboard properly. Be forewarned, once the radio is snapped in, the entire dash plate has to come out to remove the radio. The radio now sits 1/4 inch back from flush with the dash. The radio came with a trim bezel that I trimmed to fit the opening and the radio looks like a factory install. Note: You have to trim the top and bottom of the radio opening flush with the bezel and trim a little of the sides, but not too much. The sides are where the adapter locks into the opening. All in all, it took about 20 minutes to modify the adapter once I got done figuring out the right depth to clear the wiring harness and leave an air gap for cooling the unit. I had to order a second one for my neighbor who owns a 03 crown vic who now wants one installed in his car. If your not scared of a little dremel work, this is an easy way to add a double din to an 03-11 crown vic. It will not work on a 02 or older unless you really modify the defroster duct. I would recommend this kit to anyone who wants to put a double din in an 03 or later crown vic. But some planning and dremel work is required to get it right.
I forgot to mention that once you make this modification, the factory radio will not lock into the dash. You will need a new dash bezel to put the stock radio back in.

Could be better. Uses this to install a Pioneer AVH-X3800BSH in my 03 F250. It did end up working but had to do a good bit of grinding to the install hole in the dash. Also don’t really care for how the radio sits recessed into the dash over a quarter inch. If you can find a better kit try it.

Used for a Pioneer AVH-4600BT in my ’95 Explorer. Works and looks ok. However, it compresses the sides of the stereo a little too much and makes it hard to use the dvd open function. I’ve resorted to applying a little pressurebto both sides of this adapter when opening the dvd to keep it from damaging the stereo. I would recommend filing it down just a bit where the side plate edges meets the dash before popping in your stereo. Otherwise works and looks nice. Not being a big dvd or cd user it was okay for me. Should work just fine for any double dins without a motorized faceplate.

Also – just a note for those Explorer/Ranger/etc owners who have seen (or not) the disclaimer that you will need to modify your subdash… This modification simply requires the removal of the top and bottom plastic lips that are covered by the factory radio. The top is a single strip and the bottom has a small spacing between the two sides. If you google a radio bezel for a ’95 explorer you see what I mean. Other years and models may be a little different. It comes off nice and evenly using a dremmel with a cutting tool disc. DO NOT TRIM THE SIDES! You only cut out the top and bottom lips. The sides are what the adapter snaps onto.
