Great Head Unit,
My setup: 2014 Nissan Versa S, Galaxy S4 (Android) phone, USB cable installed, Bluetooth microphone installed, Parking Brake override installed, No Backup Camera, No Appradio/Mirrorlink.
Likes:
* Bluetooth- The sound quality is exceptional. I am able to hear the other caller perfectly clear, and more importantly, they are able to hear me without any issues. The included microphone helps the call quality tremendously. I installed the microphone to sit between the sun visor and the rear-view mirror. I had no problems pairing my Android via Bluetooth to make calls, play Pandora, and listen to music on my device. The hands-free button on the head unit activates S-Voice or Google Search, and the unit downloads all of my contacts, call history, and offers full functionality for Bluetooth phone. I can operate Pandora from the unit and it will control my phone. I can also skip, pause, play etc.. from the head unit and it will operate my music player on my phone.
* HD Radio – This is the first time I’ve experienced HD radio and I love it. There is a noticeable quality improvement when the unit picks up a HD station. The radio is straight forward and easy to use.
* Style/Look – The customization options on the display that allow you to alter the theme and colors of the unit are neat, and I was able to match the interior color scheme of my car. You can also adjust the brightness, contrast etc. of the unit to make it easier to see in the daylight.
* Sound – The sound is great, but I don’t have any amps or subs hooked up in my car, so take this for what it’s worth. There are several pre-set EQ settings you can use to adjust the sound.
Dislikes
* Manual – The manual for this unit doesn’t explain all of the features clearly. I had to do several Google searches to find out how to add phone numbers to my preset call list, and to find out what the favorites menu was and how to use it. I was completely unfamiliar with AppRadio mode and Mirrorlink, and the manual didn’t help me understand these modes or how to use them.
* Built for Iphone/Ipod – This unit is tailor made to work for Apple products. That’s understandable considering the popular demand for all things Apple, but it leaves Android users with the leftovers. My phone will pair and play music, but I have to use my phone to change albums and artists. It is my understanding that Iphone and Ipod users will experience a greater degree of Plug-And-Play with this unit. Android will work, but it’s a little more clumsy.
* AppRadio/Mirrorlink – Another feature that is designed with Apple products in mind. I think it may work with certain Android phones, but good luck trying to figure out which cables you need and how to configure it. I think I may need to purchase $60 in special cables and adapters before I can get my phone to hook up.
* USB port location – The USB port for this unit is on the back, requiring you to run a (included) USB male-female cable under the dash and out to a location of your choosing. I have this cable running coming out on the side of the center console. I would prefer to have this on the front to eliminate the need for additional wiring.

Complete system upgrade in a 2008 Ford Super Duty,
I started with the internal amp powering (4) Infinity 5×7’s with an Infinity Bass-link tapped off the rear speaker channel (this is what I had setup off my OEM head-unit and it sounded okay, much better than stock) After I decided to keep the Pioneer 5600 unit I added a Rockford Fosgate 4 channel amp, a set of JL Audio C5-570’s, Axxcess steering wheel control interface, TaoTronics license plate backup cam, Metra antenna adapter, A-Cigna lightning extension cable (it works for data too), and changed the Bass-link setup to run off the pre-outs. Now I have a system that can hold its own and has great sound quality.
The Pioneer is quick through the menus and allows for many different configurations to make it visually «yours». The HD radio tuner is the strongest I have used, I picked up a station that is over 100 miles away! (101.1 WJRR Orlando and I’m in West Palm Beach) The Bluetooth connection is good, connects automatically within 10 seconds of startup and transfers music data to the screen from the Iphone (I find myself using the Bluetooth connection 80% of the time and the plug in / Appradio connection when traveling distance, need a phone charge, or showing off the system)
The DVD image quality is acceptable, the automatic when in reverse backup cam is great (it can be manually turned on from the main screen when not in reverse), and the steering wheel control integration is seamless. The install time was longer than I expected (about 24hrs with other upgrades mentioned above). Every connection is soldered and shrink wrapped and I removed the front seats for easier access to wiring.
Overall Its a great product for the price, with some «bargain shopping» I’m sitting at just over $1200 total for a very complete system that blows away my friends 2013 Super Duty OEM navigation system w/Sony premium audio system.
