Perfect lift kit!,
The install took a little longer that I expected (about 4 hours) but overall it was pretty easy to install and once i was done i loved the new look of my Silverado. Its sits more level and is a true 2.5″ taller in front and 1″in the rear. Have been driving with the kit for about 4 weeks now and havent noticed any difference in the handling. The extra height has come in handy with the heavy snowfall this year in Northern Michigan (220″+)!
Just a bit of advice when installing: Make sure when you disconnect the upper control arm the lower is supported very well. I thought my first one was and then it decided to fail…pulling my CV axle apart and destroying the inner boot in the process…i will a little pissed and ended up just replacing the assembly. Other than that the install went great.
About two weeks after installing I did check all the bolts that were touched in the process and did have to tighten them a bit more. When the instructions say check after the first 500 miles its in your best interest to check!
Haven’t really noticed any gas mileage difference with this kit either which is always a bonus. Transmission, steering, and suspension all are great as well after this kit was installed.
I would highly recommend this kit to anyone that wants a small lift/level.

2012 Chevy Silverado, best kit for the price,
I am reviewing the 2.5” Rough Country Lift Kit. I am reviewing this kit for somebody who wants to install it themselves, and who has an average amount of automotive tools, as well as an average amount of automotive knowledge. This kit is advertised to be easy bolt-on installation and to lift your truck 2.5 inches. Today I am going to review this kit based off of a few different criteria. The first is if the claims that they make about this kit are factual. The second is installation whether or not it is an easy bolt-on kit. The third is affordability, and my overall satisfaction with the product. I will also go through the installation process and the steps that need to be taken after you have your new lift kit on.
This kit includes two one inch lower strut spacers, one for the driver’s side and one for the passenger’s side. It also comes with the four extended bolts necessary to in install those. It includes a quarter inch upper strut spacer, which “slides” right on top of your factory suspension. For the rear there is a two inch blocks to place under your leaf springs, these will replace your original one inch block. It also of course includes the necessary hardware for their installation. Now most of you looking at this kit and reading this article are thinking, “How do they get 2.5 inches if the kit only includes one and a quarter inch for the front, and one inch for the rear?” Well I was wondering the same when I opened the box and realized that the blocks and spacers included were much smaller than I had thought when purchasing this item. The front spacers to level the front of your truck to approximately 39 inches at the top of the wheel well, which is the same height as the top of the rear wheel well. The rear then moves up to approximately 40 inches after this kit is installed. Now do not think that because they lie about the height gained that this is a bad kit, because it’s not, the claims made are just not factual.
The next claim that they make is that it has easy bolt-on installation, which is true and false. The kit is one hundred percent bolt-on, but the definition of “easy” is a little up in the air. This kit would be easy to install for a mechanic in a shop that could fully lift a vehicle and has all of the proper tools, but to an at home “Do it Yourselfer” it is just a little bit more tricking. I installed this with my brother just about a year and a half ago, it took us about six hours to install, but we did take a couple breaks and we had a couple of tool malfunctions as well. Their claim of easy is not necessarily a lie, but I will go through the problems we had installing this kit, and you can make a decision whether or not you want to tackle it. First things first, when you get the box and pull out the instructions, just through then away, trust me you are saving yourself time and effort. All the instructions will do is tell give you steps on how to install this kit, but not only are they not in the right order, but the tools they tell you to use are not even always the correct size. The directions will tell you to jack up the vehicle and then remove the bolt that connects the torsion bar with the lower control arm, but do not do this, it is much easier to remove that while the truck is resting on the ground, then jack it up and remove the tire. Also when reinstalling the torsion bar bolt, the truck has to be on the ground, otherwise it will not fit, knowing this would have saved me a lot of frustration. Now before this I had little automotive experience, all I did was simply do a search on YouTube about how to install this kit, there are at least a half dozen videos that are out there. I recommend doing this before even opening the box. Now without completely going through the installation steps, I will say this about the installation: it is a great way to begin working on your truck, especially if you do not have a huge wealth of knowledge. I did this with no power tools and one jack that was low on fluid and was very difficult to jack down once brought up. As far as if you are debating between have it installed and doing it yourself, just do it, its hard work, but in the end its worth it and you save yourself some money.
If you are still reading this review I am assuming that I did not completely scare you away from this product, good, I was not trying to. The next topic of discussion is affordability, if you have been shopping around already you will know that this is the most affordable lift kit, for the height you receive. Rough Country is a reputable brand that does provide affordable, sturdy suspension lift kits. This kit will now improve the ride quality of your truck, but if you are looking for that you will have to spend more money. This kit simply lifts the front and rear of your vehicle, which is what most people are looking for in a small lift or leveling kit. Alright so after you…

Great!,
When the package arrived, I assumed I would need my wrench set, so I carried the package out to the car with wrench set in hand. As I started to unscrew the first bolt, I thankfully noticed a metal clip on the hydraulic connection. All I needed was a screwdriver to release the metal clip and it slid right out. I was finished in 5 minutes!
The Strong Arm hydraulics have been installed for 4 weeks now and they work as anticipated. The best part is I don’t have to hold the hatch open by resting it on my head anymore.
