   I bought these lamps based on a recommendation of a local seller. They stated that the bulbs were very bright and white, something I thought desirable. They were an upgrade, it was said, from the other Sylvania bulbs that I had used. Indeed, I installed them in my wife’s car and she was/is impressed–even over the Silver Star Ultra.

   Over the years, I have had a lot of experience installing headlamps and bulbs. I bought these and installed them, using gloved hands and all due caution. Everything seemed to go well and the bulbs initially tested O.K.

   Well, on their second or third use, my wife told me that one of the bulbs is burned out on the low beam. There is mention of a warrantee on the label, but the bulbs are apparently not available as singles. I sure hope that Sylvania honors the warrantee.

   NB: Sylvania did honor the warranty and promptly, too, without fuss. They even shipped the replacement bulbs to me via 2nd day FedEx. Good service!

   I have been using the Silver Star Ultra bulbs and these are much better. They are whiter and brighter than any of the Silver Stars. When I switch to high beam all the street signs light up and are more visible. I know Silver Stars don’t last as long as normal halogens but I like the look.

   Two things: 1. They cost more. 2. I do not know how long they will last, but they have a 1 year warranty. Save the receipt!!!

   March 1, 2013 — UPDATE: These bulbs are still going strong since 10/2011. Well worth the money.

   Driving on Pennsylvania’s two lane highways at night requires a great set of headlights because of the abundance of deer. When the ZXE’s were introduced I already had a set of Ultra Silver Stars in my vehicle so I thought getting a set of the new lights would make a comparison easy and I could keep the Ultras as spares. The ZXE’s are somewhat whiter than the Ultras. The useful distance down the highway for both is about 4/10ths of a mile which means I can see glowing eyeballs in plenty of time to slow down and get on the horn, the most effective way to prevent a deer strike. If you’re looking for an HID type bulb the ZXE’s are about as good as it gets. They’re just a little more expensive than the Ultras, have about the same range and project a similar pattern. I have never had an element blow out on an Ultra so I think the 150 hour projected lifespan might be rather conservative. I would expect the ZXE bulbs to match the Ultras in longevity as they’re both made in Germany probably by the same manufacturer. A little pricy but worth the money.
