License plates are visible – excellent for the price!,
Customer Video Review Length:: 0:53 Mins
The Wicked HD is an upgrade from my first dash cam, and features a slew of options for the price, many of which you may choose not even to use. One of the best features I’d like to point out, is that license plates are visible, even on the setting I tested at random (there are 5 resolution options) and with a glare off my windshield. I have not yet viewed the footage at night to try the IR capabilities, but I did view it on the screen, and it appears nearly as good as my game cams ($$$) at close driveway range, even with headlights coming at the screen.
You can set the recording to go on loop, so if you never have an incident, you never take it out of the car, it keeps recording over the old footage. Some of the older cameras have to be reformatted now and then but these newer models are more easily able to work on loop like they should so that’s much more user friendly. The dash cam can be used as a normal still shot camera, and (if you want-this feature can be disabled) it has a GPS feature to work into the images (I immediately made sure this was NOT enabled), you can enable or disable the audio (you may want it enabled if you are using for liability purposes, yes, even if you sing in the car). Those surprised exclamations you say aloud when someone pulls out or hits you may save you if accused. It has a zoom feature, date/time stamp enable/disable, anti-shake enable/disable, features you can choose for exposures and white/dark, and many other features that I’ll still need to learn. The camera itself is sleek and the screen is nice and I’m not gonna lie: I dig the red Mercedes that greets me when I turn it on and off.
Overall, I really like this camera, it is far superior to my old one, and jam-packed with features for the price. I’ll put my two gripes below, they are minor as far as I am concerned and do not impact the functionality of the camera, because if I have a problem on the road, this camera will record the details.
Programming: A note to help others, because this took me forever: Your manual, page 4 «Structure», note number 11. REC button/OK button. Did you get that? REC is OK when programming. That could have been clarified but you’re reading it here, too.
Gripe 1: The microSD card was not included, although on Amazon and inside the unit itself, it states it is included. I am currently using with a regular old microSD card, even though there is a warning card within the packaging warning only to use the «enclosed» microSD card of a special superior brand.
Gripe 2: The camera has a special keyhole type mount to attach to it’s suction cups (included) and is not universal. The fit is not good and the camera is loose and at one point actually fell out of the suction cup and onto the dash, and while driving, I noticed it moving out of position and had to readjust it. Normally, with any of these devices, my old dash cam, a GPS, you could buy a much better universal suction cup mount and it would fit due to the universal screw design, but because of this keyhole mount… I don’t know, some major modification will be necessary.

Update – Stopped Working After 3 Months,
Original Review:
I really like this dash-cam! There is not much I can add to the other reviews except to say that you can power it with a battery pack since it uses a USB power connector. I got the Poweradd Pilot E2 12000mAh USB Portable Charger (also on Amazon) and it works great with this dash-cam. You can use a smaller capacity battery; this one powers the cam for a couple of weeks around town before recharging. While using a battery means no cable from the dash, it does mean the camera doesn’t automatically power on when you turn on the car. Instead I have to push the power button on the battery when I get in the car and when I get out.
The directions that come with this dash-cam are very limited. Be prepared to spend a little time playing with it before you use it. Also note that when you plug it into a computer it acts like a storage device. Handy for looking at video, but you need another power source if you are going to sit and play with the camera to make up for the lacking directions. And as someone else has noted, you will save yourself some frustration if you note that the «rec» button doubles as the «ok» button when you are in the settings menu.
